Opera launched its new AI-centric browser, Opera Neon, on Tuesday, designed to autonomously handle complex workflows including online shopping, form completion, and website coding.
Access to the browser is currently restricted via a waitlist. While Opera has confirmed that a subscription model will be implemented for the final release, specific pricing information remains undisclosed.
Advanced AI Controls: Chat, Do, and Make
The interface centers on three primary sidebar buttons: Chat, Do, and Make. The Chat function provides a direct interface for web searching, real-time query responses, and contextual analysis of active web pages.
The “Do” button integrates the company’s “Browser Operator” AI agent, first introduced in March. This tool is engineered to execute functional tasks locally, such as navigating complex form entries or automating travel reservation processes.
Cloud-Powered Creation and Multitasking
Perhaps the most ambitious feature, “Make,” allows users to generate games, websites, code snippets, and reports via text prompts. Opera utilizes cloud-based virtual machines to power these workflows, enabling the browser to process tasks independently even when the user is offline. Furthermore, the system supports concurrent execution of multiple AI-driven tasks.
The Competitive Landscape of AI Browsing
While the technical specifications are promising, the real-world utility of such AI agents remains to be tested. Opera is entering a highly competitive market; The Browser Company debuted an AI-powered browser concept last December with similar autonomous capabilities, and Google is actively developing projects aimed at integrating AI agents directly into search and browser-based workflows.
