Google announced on Tuesday that it is officially rolling out the Gemini Personal Intelligence feature to users across India, enabling deep integration between the AI and personal Google accounts like Gmail and Photos.
How Personal Intelligence Transforms Your Workflow
By granting Gemini access to their personal data, users can now pose specific queries such as, “What are my travel plans for Jaipur?” to retrieve consolidated information directly from their emails or photo libraries. The tool also analyzes recent YouTube watch history to provide tailored suggestions. To ensure transparency, Google confirmed that Gemini will cite its sources, allowing users to verify the AI’s findings independently.
Availability and Rollout Strategy
At this initial stage, the Personal Intelligence feature is restricted to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in India. However, Google has committed to expanding access to free-tier users in the coming weeks. This move marks another significant step in Gemini’s global footprint, following its U.S. beta launch in January, a full U.S. release in March, and a subsequent debut in Japan.
Managing AI Hallucinations and Nuance
Google warned that Gemini’s ability to interpret personal context is not infallible and may occasionally draw incorrect connections between unrelated data points.
“Gemini may also struggle with timing or nuance, particularly regarding relationship changes, like divorces, or your various interests. For instance, seeing hundreds of photos of you at a golf course might lead it to assume you love golf. But it misses the nuance: You don’t love golf, but you love your son, and that’s why you’re there. If Gemini gets this wrong, you can just tell it (‘I don’t like golf’),” the company explained in its official blog post.
Expanding the AI Ecosystem in India
The introduction of Personal Intelligence is part of a broader, aggressive strategy to deploy advanced AI tools in the Indian market. Recent initiatives include the launch of Gemini within the Chrome browser in March and the integration of agentic flows for restaurant reservations through partnerships with platforms like Zomato, Swiggy, and EazyDiner.
