Elon Musk has agreed to settle a $128 million lawsuit brought by four former Twitter executives, ending a high-stakes legal battle that began after he acquired the social media platform in 2022.
The Fallout of the Twitter Takeover
Immediately following his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, Musk terminated CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and top legal executives Sean Edgett and Vijaya Gadde. The group filed suit, alleging they were denied severance payments as retaliation for their efforts to hold Musk to his acquisition contract when he famously attempted to abandon the deal.
Hostility Cited in Legal Filings
The executives’ legal complaint highlighted the personal animosity behind their terminations. The filing specifically referenced Walter Isaacson’s biography of Musk, which detailed the billionaire’s vow to “hunt every single one” of Twitter’s C-suite members “till the day they die.”
Settlement Details Remain Confidential
While a recent court filing formally confirms that both sides have reached an agreement to resolve the dispute, the specific financial terms of the settlement have not been disclosed to the public.
Broader Legal Woes for Musk
This case is part of a wider pattern of litigation surrounding Musk’s management of the company. Beyond the executive suite, Musk recently settled a separate class-action lawsuit involving approximately 6,000 laid-off Twitter employees. Many of those staff members had alleged that they were either denied promised severance packages entirely or received significantly incomplete payments following the massive workforce reductions.
