WhatsApp is rolling out a major update introducing AI-generated suggested replies, smarter storage management, and advanced photo editing tools powered by Meta AI to enhance the user experience.
Upgrading Your Message Drafting
The most significant addition is the evolution of the “Writing Help” feature, originally launched last August. While previously limited to rephrasing, proofreading, or adjusting message tone, the new update aims to help users draft perfect responses directly within the app. Meta detailed the update in a recent blog post, signaling a clear push to keep users within the WhatsApp ecosystem rather than turning to external AI tools like ChatGPT.
While the efficiency of AI drafting is clear, the shift raises questions about the future of personal communication. Whether users will embrace AI-generated responses for casual chats with friends and family remains to be seen, though Meta emphasizes that privacy remains a priority, with all chats kept secure even when using Writing Help.
To access these AI capabilities, tap the chat bar, select the stickers icon in the typing field, and tap the pencil icon featuring the sparkledust symbol.
Smart Storage and Media Management
WhatsApp is also addressing storage concerns by allowing users to identify and delete large files directly within individual chats. This granular approach enables users to clear bulky media files without the need to delete entire conversation histories, ensuring that important messages remain intact while reclaiming device space.
Creative Tools and Platform Parity
Beyond text and storage, Meta is integrating its AI photo editing capabilities into the chat interface. Users can now manipulate images directly, including removing distracting elements, modifying backgrounds, or applying new artistic styles to their photos.
The update also bridges the gap between operating systems. Users can now move chat histories from iOS to Android and vice versa, as well as between devices on the same platform. Furthermore, iOS users gain the ability to log into two WhatsApp accounts simultaneously—a feature previously exclusive to the Android version of the app.
Enhanced Sticker Integration
The app’s sticker experience is also becoming more intuitive. As users type emojis, WhatsApp will now suggest relevant stickers, offering a seamless way to replace static characters with more expressive visual content.
These features are currently in the process of rolling out and will be available to the global user base in the coming days.
