Delivery startup Rivr is deploying its autonomous, dog-like robots alongside Veho delivery vans in Austin, Texas, to tackle the complex “last-100-yards” logistics challenge. The pilot program, aimed at streamlining final-stage parcel drop-offs, kicks off in the residential neighborhoods of Northwest Austin before scaling to denser urban sectors, confirmed Fred Cook, co-founder and CTO of Veho.
Optimizing the Final Mile
The integration of these specialized robots addresses the inefficiency of navigating private driveways and complex apartment complexes, where delivery drivers often lose significant time. Looking ahead, Cook envisions a sophisticated ecosystem where delivery vans serve as mobile hubs, equipped with integrated charging stations to keep the robots powered for entire shifts without returning to a base.
Aggressive Growth and Financial Backing
Rivr is using the data gathered from the Veho partnership to accelerate its operational roadmap, with plans to scale its fleet to 100 robots by next year, reaching thousands of units by 2027. This expansion follows the startup’s successful operations in the U.K., facilitated by its ongoing partnership with the delivery platform Evri.
The company’s growth trajectory is supported by a robust financial foundation, having raised over $25 million in capital. This includes a notable funding round led by Jeff Bezos, which valued the company at $100 million.
