Substack has officially rolled out new features allowing creators to monetize video content directly through its platform, enabling seamless uploads via the mobile app to capture broader audiences and accelerate earnings.
Data Shows Video Drives Exponential Growth
The platform reports that creators who integrate video and audio into their Substacks experience revenue growth more than 2.5 times faster than those relying solely on text-based content.
Internal metrics highlight a rapid shift in content consumption patterns. In April 2024, slightly over 50% of the top 250 revenue-generating creators utilized audio and video. By February 2025, that figure climbed to 82%. Furthermore, the platform noted a significant boost in cross-subscription behavior: subscribers acquired through audio and video creators are now 150% more likely to pay for other Substack publications, up from 52% just six months ago.
Competing for the Creator Economy
These updates represent Substack’s aggressive strategy to attract talent from short-form video giants like TikTok. This move follows the recent launch of a $20 million Creator Accelerator Fund, designed to mitigate financial risk for influencers transitioning their operations to the platform. Additionally, Substack has expanded its infrastructure to make livestreaming capabilities accessible to all publishers, signaling a transition toward becoming a comprehensive multimedia hub.
