Rerun, an innovative open source platform designed for visualizing data in robotics, drones, and autonomous vehicles, has secured $17 million in seed funding to scale its operations and technology. The investment, which stands as a significant seed round for a European startup, highlights the growing demand for advanced development tools in the physical AI sector.
A Powerhouse Team of Industry Veterans
The development of Rerun is driven by a high-caliber team with deep expertise from tech giants, including Apple, AWS, Meta, Unity, Zenly, and Zipline. A key figure in this technical evolution is CTO Emil Ernerfeldt, widely recognized as the creator of egui, the largest open source GUI framework built with the Rust programming language.
Why Investors Are Betting on Rerun
The platform’s strategic focus on open source infrastructure was the primary catalyst for the investment, according to Ricardo Sequerra Amram, a partner at Point Nine. He noted that Rerun’s commitment to transparency and accessibility has been instrumental in its rapid adoption.
“Rerun’s work on open source has allowed them to gain the trust of some of the most ambitious companies in the world of physical AI,” Amram stated.
Strategic Backing for Future Growth
The seed round saw significant participation from Sunflower Capital, further bolstering the company’s financial position. These new investors join a strong existing roster of backers, including Costanoa Ventures and Seedcamp, who continue to support the company’s vision of revolutionizing how developers interact with complex data in autonomous systems.
