OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that the company is developing granular, opt-in copyright controls for its text-to-video model, Sora, as part of a strategy to address intellectual property concerns while preparing for future monetization.
Monetization Strategies for Sora
The second major update concerns the path toward video monetization. While OpenAI previously limited its financial strategy to charging users for additional video generation during peak demand, Altman’s recent blog post signals a shift toward a broader commercial model. He openly acknowledged that the company must find a sustainable way to generate revenue from the tool, noting that these financial gains could potentially be shared with rights holders.
Balancing Revenue and Creator Value
Altman emphasized the need to balance the company’s financial goals with the interests of content creators. Regarding the potential for revenue sharing, he stated, “Our hope is that the new kind of engagement is even more valuable than the revenue share, but of course we… want both to be valuable.”
