In a significant update, Meta has launched a feature that empowers businesses to utilize AI agents for setting up and managing their WhatsApp Business messaging. This announcement came alongside the introduction of new AI-focused subscription plans on Tuesday.
Previously, businesses faced a complex setup process that required navigating multiple platforms, including the Developer Console, Meta’s Business Manager, and various API references. Now, with the integration of AI, users can simply communicate their needs to their chosen AI agent, streamlining the entire process.
The feature is facilitated by the innovative WhatsApp Business Tools MCP, a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that connects AI coding agents such as Claude, Cursor, Codex, or ChatGPT directly to the WhatsApp Business Platform.
This expansion of Meta’s MCP servers aims to enhance the onboarding experience for businesses on WhatsApp, complementing existing servers designed for ad management and app configuration. Other tech giants, including PayPal, Stripe, and Google, have also adopted MCP servers to enable secure interactions with AI agents.
With this new capability, AI agents can take care of essential tasks within the WhatsApp Business setup, including establishing the business account, verifying phone numbers, accessing the Cloud API, and ensuring compliance with the Terms of Service.
Additionally, businesses can leverage these AI agents for various functions, such as creating or modifying messaging templates, testing outgoing messages, and monitoring critical aspects like Terms of Service compliance and payment methods.
Furthermore, during the setup process, businesses can utilize Meta’s other MCP server, the Meta Social Technologies MCP, to explore API endpoints, access documentation, and troubleshoot any errors that may arise.
