Lately App: Gamifying Your Schedule to Stop Being Late

The Lately app is tackling chronic tardiness by integrating gamification into daily scheduling, helping users stay on track and arrive at their destinations on time.

Current Capabilities and Limitations

While our testing confirmed that Lately is a highly effective tool for time management, it currently features a notable limitation: the app only provides travel time estimations for driving and walking. Users who rely on public transportation or cycling in major metropolitan areas will find these specific transit options missing from the current build.

Despite this constraint, we anticipate the app will gain significant traction within its core demographic, particularly for those who struggle with punctuality and time perception.

Leveraging Gamification for Productivity

For individuals with ADHD, maintaining motivation is a common challenge, and experts frequently recommend reward-based systems to foster self-discipline. The success of gamification is already evident in apps like Finch. This self-care platform has garnered a loyal following by allowing users to earn points for completing household chores and healthy habits, which are then used to customize a virtual pet.

What’s Next for Lately

Founder MacInnis has outlined an ambitious roadmap for the application. Future updates are set to include a social integration feature that automatically notifies friends when a user departs, when they are five minutes away, and upon their final arrival. Additionally, the development team confirmed that an Android version of the app is currently in the works.

Pricing and Subscription Tiers

Lately is currently available as a free download. For power users, a premium subscription is available for $3 per month or $10 annually. This paid tier unlocks advanced features, including the ability to schedule recurring trips and customize the difficulty levels of the app’s time-tracking challenges.
