Mark Zuckerberg reached out to Elon Musk on February 3, 2025, offering Meta’s resources to support the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and protect Musk’s team from harassment, according to court documents released Friday.
A Shift From Rivalry to Cooperation
The relationship between the two tech titans, once defined by a potential cage fight, appears to have thawed significantly during the early stages of the second Trump administration. As reported by Engadget, these communications surfaced as part of the ongoing lawsuit Musk filed against OpenAI. The exchange took place during the same period Zuckerberg appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast, where he criticized the “emasculation” of corporate America.
Zuckerberg’s Offer of Support
Addressing Musk’s aggressive efforts to slash government spending via DOGE, Zuckerberg sent a direct message: “Looks like DOGE is making progress. I’ve got our teams on alert to take down content doxxing or threatening the people on your team. Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help.”
The OpenAI Bid Proposal
Musk responded to the overture with a simple heart emoji before pivoting to a major business inquiry: “Are you open to the idea of bidding on OpenAI with me and some others?”
Meta’s CEO replied by suggesting they move the conversation to a phone call to discuss the potential partnership. However, despite the open dialogue, previous court filings confirm that Zuckerberg never committed to joining Musk’s bid to acquire OpenAI.
