Marques Brownlee’s wallpaper application, Panels, is officially ceasing operations on December 31, 2025, with the company confirming plans to refund active annual subscribers and purge all user data upon closure.
The Path to Shutdown and Refund Process
While the platform is scheduled to shutter at the end of 2025, the team behind Panels has clarified that users with active annual subscriptions will be eligible for reimbursements. The company has published a dedicated blog post detailing specific procedures for customers seeking to expedite their refund process rather than waiting for the final sunset date.
Data Privacy and Future of the Source Code
Security and transparency remain central to the exit strategy. Panels has explicitly stated that once the service officially goes offline, every piece of stored user data will be permanently deleted to ensure privacy for its former community.
In a move to leave a legacy, the developers plan to open-source the application code. This decision allows external developers to access the underlying architecture, providing an opportunity for the community to study, modify, or build upon the project if they choose to do so after the app is no longer commercially available.
