Samsung announced on Wednesday a strategic partnership with Google Cloud to integrate Gemini AI into its rolling home robot, Ballie, significantly expanding the device’s conversational and analytical capabilities.
Transforming Home Assistance Through Multimodal AI
By leveraging Gemini’s multimodal architecture, Samsung plans to merge its proprietary AI technology with Google’s advanced processing. This integration allows Ballie to interpret both audio and video inputs, enabling the robot to handle complex, context-aware queries. For example, users can ask the robot for fashion advice, relying on Ballie’s onboard camera and visual intelligence to analyze their outfit and provide real-time suggestions.
Personalized Health and Daily Intelligence
Beyond visual tasks, Ballie will utilize Gemini to act as a proactive wellness companion. The robot will be capable of offering personalized health recommendations, including tailored exercise routines and strategies to optimize sleep quality. Additionally, users can engage the device for general knowledge queries, positioning Ballie as a dynamic information hub within the home environment.
A New Era for AI Companionship
Yongjae Kim, EVP of Samsung’s visual display business, emphasized the significance of this collaboration. “By pairing Gemini’s powerful multimodal reasoning with Samsung’s AI capabilities in Ballie, we’re leveraging the power of open collaboration to unlock a new era of personalized AI companion — one that moves with users, anticipates their needs, and interacts in more dynamic and meaningful ways than ever before,” said Kim in an official statement.
Market Availability and Ecosystem Expansion
After years of showcasing various prototypes at CES, Samsung confirmed that Ballie is scheduled to reach consumers in South Korea and the United States during the first half of 2025. This move follows Samsung’s previous efforts to integrate Gemini into its Galaxy S24 smartphone series. Furthermore, reports suggest that both companies are collaborating on an upcoming XR device, where Gemini is expected to play a foundational role in the user experience.
