in Communities

CONTEUDO:

X has officially confirmed that it will allow Communities to designate themselves as NSFW (Not Safe For Work), ensuring that adult-oriented content remains unfiltered while maintaining platform safety standards. This update is part of a long list of updates to X’s Communities, which were shared by an engineer on the platform and subsequently amplified by Elon Musk, who noted, “Many upgrades to X Communities!”

Strategic Growth for X Communities

The expansion of Communities remains a cornerstone of the growth strategy championed by owner Elon Musk and CEO Linda Yaccarino. During an all-hands meeting last autumn, Musk emphasized that while the Communities product was growing fast, significant development is still required to make the feature truly compelling. At the time, executives highlighted features such as integrating external account feeds—allowing, for instance, a gaming community to pull in content from specific reviewers—though no mention of NSFW-specific policies was made.

Competing with Reddit and Powering AI

Successfully scaling the Communities product could position X as a direct competitor to major forum-based platforms like Reddit. Furthermore, these communities serve as a vital source of training data for xAI’s chatbot, Grok, which maintains exclusive access to real-time content generated on X.

New Moderation and Engagement Tools

Beyond the NSFW designation, X is rolling out a suite of administrative and user-experience enhancements. Key updates include:

  • The introduction of a “Ban” button alongside existing “Keep” and “Hide” options on reported posts.
  • Detailed feedback for users who are ineligible to join specific Communities.
  • New spam management, including temporary and permanent bans.
  • Advanced sorting tools for posts (Trending, Most recent, and Most liked).
  • A dedicated Media tab for Communities on Android devices.

The Future Roadmap for Communities

X has outlined an extensive pipeline of upcoming features aimed at increasing discoverability and engagement. Future updates include the ability to explore top posts and communities by topic, alongside algorithmic recommendations within the “For You” tab to help groups grow. Community moderators will soon gain access to advanced analytics, the ability to pin multiple posts, and improved spam filter controls. Additionally, the platform intends to integrate audio Spaces into Communities and potentially overhaul the user interface for posts and replies.

X has not provided a specific timeline for the deployment of these features, and the company did not respond to requests for comment regarding an ETA for these updates.
