Meta’s social platform, Threads, has officially surpassed 275 million monthly active users (MAUs), according to an announcement made by the company this past Sunday.
A Milestone for the Text-First Network
Adam Mosseri, the Meta executive overseeing both Threads and Instagram, confirmed the achievement in a post on the platform. “Yesterday we crossed 275M monthly active users on @Threads. A big thank you to everyone who’s helped us get this far. There’s a lot more to do, and plenty of things to fix, but there’s something exciting about this place,” said Mosseri.
Rapid Expansion Since Launch
Threads debuted in July 2023, strategically positioned to attract users migrating from X following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform. Since its inception, it has solidified its position as a major player in the text-based social media landscape. The platform’s growth trajectory has been aggressive, climbing from 150 million MAUs in April to 200 million by August. This latest milestone indicates an addition of 75 million active users within just three months.
Daily Sign-ups and Ongoing Challenges
During Meta’s Q3 2024 earnings call last week, CEO Mark Zuckerberg noted that the platform continues to see a consistent influx of new participants, with approximately one million people signing up for Threads every day.
Despite the strong momentum in user acquisition, the platform is currently navigating significant moderation issues. These technical and policy hurdles have caused frustration among segments of the user base, presenting a challenge for the company as it looks to sustain its current growth rate.
