Reddit reported a massive financial boost in its second-quarter earnings released Thursday, fueled by an aggressive expansion into AI-driven advertising and data licensing.
Advertising Remains the Revenue Engine
The platform’s advertising business continues to serve as its primary financial pillar, generating $465 million—a staggering 93% of the company’s total revenue for the quarter. This growth is heavily supported by new AI-powered marketing tools designed to streamline campaign performance.
Last month, Reddit introduced two critical features for brands: Reddit Insights and Conversation Summary Add-ons. Reddit Insights utilizes the platform’s massive repository of billions of posts and comments to identify market trends in real-time. Meanwhile, Conversation Summary Add-ons allow advertisers to embed authentic user discussions directly into their ads, leveraging public sentiment to build brand credibility.
Data Licensing and the AI Goldmine
Beyond traditional ads, Reddit’s “other revenue” category—which primarily encompasses its data licensing business—saw a 24% year-over-year increase, reaching $35 million compared to $28.1 million in the same period last year. This growth underscores the high market demand for Reddit’s data to train AI models.
The company has already solidified strategic content licensing agreements with industry titans such as Google and OpenAI. While these partnerships are in their infancy, the Q2 results indicate they are becoming a reliable, long-term income stream for the platform.
Scaling AI-Powered Search
Reddit’s internal AI development is also seeing rapid adoption. The “Reddit Answers” tool, a conversational interface launched in December, has surged to 6 million weekly users, marking a significant increase from 1 million users in the previous quarter.
In a letter to shareholders, CEO Steve Huffman confirmed plans to integrate the tool more deeply into the platform’s core search experience. The goal is to transform search into a central, indispensable feature across the entire Reddit ecosystem.
