Grocery delivery platform Misfits Market has officially acquired The Rounds, a sustainable service focused on zero-waste household essentials, in a strategic move to accelerate its mission of eliminating food waste and supply chain inefficiency.
Merging Forces for Sustainability
Founded in 2018, Misfits Market built its reputation by rescuing produce that traditional retailers reject—items often deemed “too ugly” for store shelves due to minor aesthetic flaws, such as unusual shapes, small sizes, or surface discoloration. By creating a marketplace for these overlooked goods, the company has successfully diverted over 238 million pounds of food from landfills to date.
The Rounds: A Zero-Waste Pioneer
The Rounds, which launched in 2019, brings a complementary model to the partnership. Their service specializes in delivering home essentials through a circular, zero-waste system that utilizes reusable packaging. This approach addresses the significant environmental impact of single-use plastics in the grocery sector.
Measuring the Environmental Impact
The integration of these two platforms aims to scale their individual environmental successes. While Misfits Market continues its efforts in food rescue, The Rounds has already demonstrated significant traction, having saved over 1 million pounds of packaging waste. Furthermore, the company estimates that its operational model currently prevents an average of 500,000 pounds of food waste every single week, a metric that is expected to grow as the companies combine their logistics and consumer reach.
