A writer has launched a legal battle against Grammarly, alleging the company misappropriated her work and identity to train its AI systems as “expert editors” without obtaining her consent.
“You rapacious information and identity thieves better get ready for me to go full McConaughey on you,” Swisher texted Newton regarding Grammarly. “Also, you suck.”
Feature Deactivated Amid Backlash
Grammarly has officially disabled its controversial “Expert Review” feature following the intense scrutiny. The update was confirmed in a LinkedIn post authored by Superhuman CEO Shishir Mehrotra.
The Defense of AI-Driven Expertise
Despite the public outcry and the subsequent removal of the feature, Mehrotra issued an apology while simultaneously defending the core concept behind the tool.
“Imagine your professor sharpening your essay, your sales leader reshaping a customer pitch, a thoughtful critic challenging your arguments, or a leading expert elevating your proposal,” Mehrotra stated in his post. “For experts, this is a chance to build that same ubiquitous bond with users, much like Grammarly has.”
