Google officially expanded its AI Mode feature to Spanish-speaking users worldwide this Tuesday, enabling a more conversational and intuitive search experience for a massive global audience. This update allows users to interact with Google Search through natural language, engage in multi-turn dialogues, upload images, and explore complex topics with greater depth, as announced by the company.
Rapid Global Expansion
The arrival of Spanish support follows a significant milestone in August, during which Google extended AI Mode to 180 countries. Previously restricted to the U.S., U.K., and India, the tool has seen a swift rollout. Alongside this expansion, Google launched advanced AI capabilities for Google AI Ultra subscribers, granting them the ability to book restaurant reservations directly within the interface. The company intends to integrate support for additional appointment types and event ticketing in the near future.
The Competitive Landscape of AI Subscriptions
Google’s aggressive integration of AI spans its entire product ecosystem. Simultaneously with the Spanish rollout, the company introduced conversational photo editing for Android users in the U.S. and expanded its budget-friendly Google AI Plus subscription to 40 additional countries. This move mirrors the competitive pressure from OpenAI, which recently launched its mid-tier “ChatGPT Go” plan in India and Indonesia.
The ChatGPT Go plan serves as an intermediary tier between the free version and the premium $20-per-month subscription. It offers users 10 times higher usage limits for prompts, image generation, and file uploads, while also enhancing the model’s ability to retain context from previous conversations for more personalized results.
Broadening Language Support
Google’s commitment to linguistic diversity in AI is evident, as the company announced earlier this month that AI Mode now supports Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese, in addition to the newly added Spanish language support.
Clarifying Google’s AI Features
As Google’s AI suite grows, users may encounter confusion between different offerings. It is essential to distinguish between AI Mode and AI Overviews. AI Mode provides a distinct, immersive environment where users engage in direct, conversational chats with Gemini AI. In contrast, AI Overviews serve as static, AI-generated summaries displayed at the top of standard search results to provide quick answers to specific queries.
