New York-based startup Renovate Robotics officially launched the Rufus V1 this Tuesday, an advanced rooftop robot designed to automate one of the construction industry’s most hazardous and labor-intensive jobs: shingle installation. This latest iteration marks a significant evolution from the company’s early prototypes, moving from a clunky gantry system comprised of several DeWalt nail guns to a streamlined, professional-grade construction solution.
Enhanced Performance and Portability
The Rufus V1 represents a major engineering leap for Renovate Robotics, which first gained industry attention in May 2023. Despite being engineered at roughly half the weight of its predecessor, the new model delivers superior speed and precision. By reducing the physical footprint of the hardware, the company has made the system significantly more practical for real-world job sites.
Modular Design for Future Expansion
A key feature of the Rufus V1 is its modular arm, which allows for the attachment of various end effectors to handle different construction requirements. While the robot is currently optimized exclusively for shingle installation, the platform is built with scalability in mind. Renovate Robotics plans to expand the machine’s capabilities in future versions, with upcoming iterations expected to handle roof tear-offs and solar panel installations.
