Reddit is aggressively targeting international expansion across the U.K., India, Brazil, and the Philippines, aiming to convert its massive global audience into a primary driver for future user and advertising growth.
Capitalizing on a Global User Base
With over 50% of its total user base already residing outside the United States, Reddit sees significant untapped potential in these key markets, according to Chief Operating Officer Jen Wong in a recent interview with CNBC.
Focusing on India’s Rapid Expansion
Wong specifically pointed to India as a high-growth region. She noted that English-speaking demographics in the country are already demonstrating strong engagement across culturally relevant topics, including Bollywood and cricket.
“India’s growing really rapidly. We see a big opportunity in India,” Wong stated, emphasizing the platform’s commitment to capturing this emerging market.
Scaling Through Language Technology
To bridge the gap between diverse global users, the company is prioritizing linguistic accessibility. CEO Steve Huffman confirmed in October that Reddit intends to scale its machine-learning-based translation features to more than 30 countries throughout 2025.
Diversifying Revenue Streams
Despite its global reach, Reddit remains heavily reliant on the U.S. market, which generated 83% of the company’s total revenue in the third quarter. To rectify this imbalance, Wong confirmed that the platform is actively working to roll out localized advertising infrastructure to support its international growth strategy.
