Meta officially announced on Thursday a price increase for its Quest 3 and Quest 3S virtual reality headsets, citing the escalating costs of memory components as the primary driver for the adjustment. Effective April 19, the Meta Quest 3S will see a $50 jump to $349.99 for the 128GB model and $449.99 for the 256GB version, while the flagship Meta Quest 3 will increase by $100, bringing its new retail price to $599.99.
Rising Component Costs Impact VR Hardware
In an official blog post, the company explained that the decision stems from the significantly higher expenses associated with manufacturing high-performance VR hardware. “The global surge in the price of critical components — specifically memory chips — is impacting almost every category of consumer electronics, including VR,” the company stated. Meta emphasized that these adjustments are necessary to maintain the standards of hardware, software, and user support expected from the Quest ecosystem.
Scope of the Pricing Adjustments
The new pricing structure will extend beyond brand-new units to include refurbished Meta Quest headsets. However, the company confirmed that the costs for all existing Meta Quest accessories will remain unchanged, shielding peripheral buyers from the current hardware inflation.
