Luma AI has partnered with the faith-based media company Wonder Project to launch “Innovative Dreams,” a new production studio leveraging real-time hybrid filmmaking to drastically reduce production costs and timelines.
A Strategic Collaboration in Entertainment
Wonder Project, established in 2023, is led by filmmaker Jon Erwin and former Netflix executive Kelly Hoogstraten. The company’s primary mission is to deliver high-quality content tailored to faith and values-driven audiences worldwide. Their inaugural production, the Biblical drama series “House of David,” premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2025.
Beyond Faith-Based Programming
While the partnership is rooted in Wonder Project’s expertise, Innovative Dreams is designed to operate as a versatile production house. The companies confirmed that the studio will not be limited to religious content, actively seeking collaborations across various genres with external studios and production partners.
Redefining Filmmaking with Real-Time Tech
In a video detailing the venture, Jon Erwin explained that Innovative Dreams utilizes a “real-time hybrid filmmaking” workflow. This process integrates performance capture—similar to the technology used in “Avatar”—with virtual production techniques popularized by “The Mandalorian,” all powered by Luma’s proprietary AI tools to maximize efficiency and affordability.
How the Technology Works
Performance capture utilizes green-screen environments where actors wear motion-tracking suits and facial markers to translate human movement into digital animation. Virtual production complements this by placing actors in front of massive LED volumes, where real-time game-engine graphics generate photorealistic environments, blending physical and digital realms during the actual shoot.
Erwin highlighted that Luma’s specific toolset allows filmmakers to capture a human performance in any location and digitally transpose it into a photorealistic scene. Furthermore, the technology enables the generation of entirely new faces, allowing the AI to map an actor’s original movements and expressions onto a completely different character persona.
