OneText has successfully raised $4.5 million in funding from Y Combinator and Khosla Ventures to transform the online shopping experience into a seamless, text-based commerce ecosystem.
The “Charge-to-Your-Room” Model for Mobile
OneText is pioneering a “card-on-file” infrastructure designed to mirror the convenience of charging expenses to a hotel room. By leveraging this model, the company aims to make mobile transactions as frictionless as possible for the modern consumer.
To maintain trust, OneText utilizes what founder Fudem describes as “consentful” automation. When a brand initiates a reorder, the platform sends an SMS notification informing the customer that the payment will process in 24 hours unless they choose to cancel. This opt-out-by-default approach prioritizes user autonomy while streamlining repeat purchases.
Building a Cross-Brand Payment Network
The company’s long-term vision extends beyond individual brand interactions. OneText plans to develop an interconnected network where shoppers can utilize their vaulted profiles across multiple retailers, benefiting from prefilled checkout information and intelligent, personalized product recommendations.
Ultimately, the startup is architecting a cross-brand, SMS-native payment network. “Building a consumer-facing wallet that’s 10x better is really hard,” Fudem noted. “But we can create a business-to-consumer texting platform that brings the ‘charge it to your room’ experience, only now, it’s your phone number. That’s how we’ll build the network.”
Growth and Market Traction
After participating in Y Combinator in 2023, OneText has focused on quietly expanding its platform capabilities. The service currently serves a diverse range of clients, primarily targeting midsized e-commerce brands generating between $10 million and $100 million in annual revenue, while maintaining support for both early-stage startups and large-scale enterprises.
“We’ve been scaling 3x year over year and doing millions in revenue,” added Fudem, who co-founded the venture alongside CTO Daniel Brain.
